Of course, watching the football game is an important part of this Sunday. However, having the perfect menu, beverages, and a great halftime game is a sure-fire way to make your Big Game Party a success. With a few helpful tips from Mr. Handyman you can truly be the host or hostess that has something for everyone!
Big Game Beverages
Beverages are an essential part of the Big Game this Sunday. Having a wide range of tasty drinks for your guests to choose from will increase the sideline action. Your best bet is to make beverages easily accessible and offer a few options that will complement your Super Bowl menu. Another refreshing tip is to offer frosted mugs for the adults while still having something simple like juice boxes for the kids.
Note: If you have a self-serving bar area available to guests it can provide you less time waiting on your guests and more time watching the game.
Touch-Down Chili
Make your guests' mouths water with a chili recipe that will knock their socks off.
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 8 slices of bacon chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic
- 2 medium yellow onions diced
- 1 orange bell pepper diced
- 1 yellow bell pepper diced
- 3 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1 can (15-ounce) of black beans drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15-ounce) of kidney beans drained and rinsed
- 1 (16-ounce) can of salsa
- 1 (24-ounce) can of crushed tomatoes or chopped puree tomatoes
Directions:
In a large dutch oven cook bacon over a medium heat stirring occasionally. Once bacon is crisp add garlic, onions, bell peppers, chili powder, cumin, chipotle powder, oregano, smoked paprika, salt and pepper. Cook until the vegetables are tender and then add beef. Once beef is broken up and beginning to brown (approximately 4-5 minutes) stir in beans. Mix together and add jar of salsa and diced tomatoes. Turn heat down and allow to simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
Note: You may also cook this chili in a slow cooker if desired.
Presentation:
Set out bowls and spoons so guests can help themselves. Provide sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese as a garnish and serve with chips, cornbread or seasoned fries.
Big Game Commercial Bingo
Get ready to have some fun. Purchase or create several 5 x 5 bingo cards, one for each of your guests. You can purchase blank cards at your local craft store or download a free template from the internet. Make sure all of the cards are different. If you have two of the same cards you will have two winners. Each square of the card will contain potential things seen in the commercials. For example, you can use commercial themes like cell phone commercial, car commercial or dog food commercial. If you want to raise the stakes you can list brand names in each square instead of themes such as Coca-Cola, Ford or M & M's. Once a player gets five squares in a row either vertical or horizontal they win!
