Wood doors require a standard router and jigsaw for cutting. In contrast, metal doors need a hand saw that is rated for sheet steel and additional bracing to prevent the frame from flexing. For concrete block and log walls, the process takes longer: we start by drilling holes for the mounting hardware, then cut and prepare the opening using a masonry blade before installing the frame. Each cut is filled with a layer of spray foam insulation between the frame and the wall, as this gap is where the cold from Calgary can seep through. Finally, we apply weather sealing around the interior frame and exterior flap, and use caulk at the junction where the frame meets the siding or brick.
