What should I expect from home threshold lowering?

At Mr. Handyman, we specialize in seamlessly lowering interior thresholds to enhance accessibility without compromising style. We’ll thoroughly assess the existing threshold height and floor levels and create a customized plan that suits the homeowner’s needs. We carefully select wood, metal, or composite materials to blend with the flooring. After removing the old threshold and preparing the subfloor, our experts install the new one, cutting and positioning it for a flush, even surface that improves aesthetics and safety. Finally, we seal gaps and apply finishing touches like painting or staining. This approach creates a safer, more accessible home while maintaining its visual appeal.

How long does it take to lower interior thresholds?

Several factors will determine how long it will take to lower your interior threshold. It’ll depend on the number of thresholds being modified, the type of flooring, and any necessary subfloor adjustments. In most cases, we can lower a single threshold in a few hours, but multiple thresholds could take more than a full day.

How do I know if I need an interior threshold-lowering service?

Raised thresholds create obstacles for people using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids, which make daily movement more difficult and unsafe. Seniors with limited mobility, individuals recovering from injuries or illness, and families with young children can benefit from threshold-lowering services to create a more accessible home. Lowering interior thresholds helps create a seamless transition between rooms, reducing tripping hazards and making movement smoother for everyone in the household. By eliminating small steps and uneven surfaces, families can enjoy greater peace of mind, knowing their home is easier for their loved ones to navigate.
