  • Selecting a stain with the right color and look is difficult. Should you use a semi-transparent or solid stain? Manufacturers can add pigment to stains now, which can give your fence that “painted” look.

    I needed drywall repair in three rooms after a plumber made extensive repairs fixing a leaky water supply line behind the walls of my home. I called Mr Handyman and was asked to provide photos of the drywall that needed repair. I sent my pics to their phone number and got a call later the same day with a price estimate (after answering some questions clarifying the repair I needed). I thought this process was efficient and the price was reasonable, so I authorized the repair over the phone right then. The next morning, Kendrick the handyman arrived and got right to work. He was efficient and professional in every regard. I am very pleased with the workmanship he provided and the price I paid. I plan to use Mr Handyman again for the next project that's bigger than I can handle myself that presents itself. In retrospect, though, I may be able to save some money by buying any materials for the repair myself ahead of the handyman's visit. This is because I paid man-hours, which included the time needed for the handyman to go to Home Depot and back for anything he needed that wasn't already on his truck.

  • We recommend using the same type of finish that was on the fence before. If you have raw wood, then we’d recommend stain since it’s more durable and requires less frequent maintenance.

    If your fence was neither painted nor stained, depending on the wood and climate, it’s fine to leave the wood as-is, but it may not last as long and turn gray. Mr. Handyman can help you make these decisions and even help you find a paint color.
