Installation of treads and risers on a stairway from the first to second floor in place of previously removed carpet. Concern was over maintaining foot grip while ascending or descending and keeping the area clean from contact by dirty bottoms of footwear. Contractor Brandon recommended the Cap-A-Tread Stair Renewal System with treads and risers installed in the same or alternate colors. It is MDF, a medium density fiberboard, covered by a laminate. Installation was difficult due to numerous widths of the bottom three steps, and the need to custom cut the bullnose to fit the outside edges, including returns. This required more time to cut and fit the pieces. Excellent attention paid to detail with cuts to match the varying tread widths from front to back for each step. No caulk or fillers were needed with a very professional result obtained. Adhesion is by glue and fasteners providing a solid feel. Traction is very good in stockings or bare feet. Cutting was dusty and performed outside. Clean-up was excellent. I recommend this company for future work!
