  • To meet the accessibility standards, you need to comply with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA B651) and local building codes. A Canadian ramp must follow strict guidelines to ensure accessibility.

The maximum slope should be of a ratio of 1:12. This means that for every 25 mm of height, the ramp has to extend another 300 mm in length. The ramp also needs to be at least 920 mm wide to allow enough room for the wheelchair.

The landing of the ramp must be at least 1,500 mm long and level to allow for resting points. If the ramp is higher than 150 mm, there need to be handrails on both sides, and they need to be between 865 mm and 965 mm high.

Lastly, the surface must be slip resistant and free of tripping hazards. Following these guidelines ensures that the ramp is functional and compliant with accessibility standards.
